UX-CALENDAR – DECEMBER 16 – UX DICES

prototypes

You are working on a innovative project for the general public ? This article is made for you !

Discover UX-Dices: a fun approach to testing the robustness of an innovation.

The principle is simple: 3 dice will allow you to test your idea against use case and verify that your project can be Useful to general users.

Usage can be broken down into 3 basic questions:

Who are the app users? (From 1)

for this, we will use the first die, with the character(s).
users

When will they use the app? (Dice 2)

to determine this, we will use the second die with the schedules.
Timetable

Where will they use the app? (Dice 3)

to determine it, we will use the third die with the geographical locations.

place

Each roll of the die composes a synopsis for the scenario (who? when? where?).

The dice will therefore be able to generate 6x6x6 = 216 situations of use of the application

It remains to answer the question: Why would the user use the application at this time in this location?
This is the subject of the UX Dices ideation workshop.

Process of the UX-Dices ideation workshop

dices

  • Assemble a small team of 5 participants for a 20-30 minute UX-Dices workshop,
  • State the context, for example: “we are working on an innovative application allowing to order meals from surrounding restaurants”,
  • Then state the objective “we seek to list all the possible uses of the application”,
  • The first participant rolls the 3 dice and announces what is out
    For example: Teen + 12H + in a park,
  • Then, each participant will propose a use case for this target at this time in this place.
For example: they are going to order tacos to have a picnic in the park.

The more ideas for use, the more promising the innovation.

Once the round table is over, the second participant rolls the dice and the others take turns proposing uses. For example:

  • Young worker + 10 am + at the office -> he will order sushi for a BBL or work lunch at the office,
  • Senior + 16 p.m. + Public transport -> order a Lebanese dinner for tonight.

UX-Dices are therefore a support for early stage ideation, to imagine a multitude of possible uses for an application or service concept. In a lean UX context, it is a way to generate hypotheses in a fun way. We will sort and we will keep only the 3-4 most promising scenarios.

Of course, it is necessary to then validate these hypotheses using user research methods

But you already know that 😉
