Reduce technical debt & buy ahead with JS

All CIOs know it, technical debt is a real nightmare.
Not only is it a source of system obsolescence - and therefore of investments to be made to reduce it -, but it is also and above all a source of significant tension with the so-called 'business' and marketing teams who want levels of functional development. more and more frequent and intended for more and more platforms (mobiles, tablets, desktop, IoT, etc.).
Indeed, technical debt forces CIOs to slow down functional developments for several reasons, the most frequently cited of which are:

  • The platform may not support the load of new services
  • The platform does not allow to operate by open webservices and therefore to develop efficient mobile services
  • Technical teams are busy with technical levels rather than evolutionary levels
  • ...

It will therefore become necessary for CIOs to switch to modern architectures, which will make it possible to shift the functional complexity to the client rather than to the back office, and to open up the information system outside the business.
To do this, the DSI will need to switch to modern architectures, based on a better distribution of complexity between the client and the information system so as to be able to manage the necessary changes desired by the company and its users. Obviously, without further complicating the information system.
Javascript, with the maturity of the entire HTML5 suite (HTML/CSS/JS), will not only make it possible to gradually reduce the technical debt without a major impact on the underlying information system, but also to get ahead by taking the functional initiative by using new tools and frameworks such as data visualization frameworks.
This movement can therefore take place over time, by making the old and the new world coexist, but will require the intervention of experts to make the right choices in a technological environment that is still young.
Once the technical stack has been carefully chosen, it will be necessary to involve, for the development of services using this stack, specialists capable of making the first versions, establishing best practices, and training the rest of the teams already in place.
