Who has never forgotten to print out a questionnaire for their user tests, and found himself at the last moment having to do it? What reward for your participants? All these tasks must be anticipated to guarantee the success of your tests!
To make it easier for you to set up user tests and because we are nice, we are sharing our user test checklist with you. So you won't forget to print the pre and post-test questionnaires in advance! The rewards for your participants will be available on D-Day! And especially not to forget to buy drinks, biscuits… for the participants on D-Day! And yes, their comfort is important to us.
Each step in the process of setting up user tests: preparation, administration, restitution, requires organization and anticipation on each subject.
#1 Preparation
This step is crucial, good organization will allow your tests to run smoothly. This is the time to carry out your test protocol. What are you going to test (developed product or prototype)? What do you want to test: scenarios, test hypotheses… But you also have to think about recruiting users: how, who, how many?
The preparation phase really serves to organize your future tests but also to define the framework of your tests. This is the time to test your scenarios on your product, but also to print all the papers to be planned on D-Day : test protocol, pre and post test questionnaire, and equip yourself for note taking.
#2 Award
D-Day arrives, it's time for the tests! Your room is ready, your users will be arriving soon, and you are calm because you have used our wonderful checklist which has saved you a lot of stress and oversights. We can never remember it enough your attendees should feel comfortable and free to give you feedback, it's never easy to criticize someone's work (especially if it's right next door!), most people don't want to offend you … This is why it is important to recall the context and above all to reassure users.
We are not here to judge the abilities of the participants, but to evaluate the interface.
And especially take note of the verbatims which are the words of your users. Quotes will have a lot of impact on the team and will facilitate empathy towards users.
#3 Return
And finally the analysis phase which can be more or less long if you have filmed the users (and yes, you have to watch the videos!) and depending on the volume of feedback, you must propose solutions adapted to the problems encountered. Once this work is done, we share the feedback with the whole team, so that everyone understands the process and accepts comments.
As we are super organized and friendly at UX, we share our checklist with you to carry out your tests with complete peace of mind! And if you want to know more about our user test offer: hello@ux-republic.com.
