Criticism, that enemy…
The disenchantment of criticism is not a recent thing. Criticism is archaically synonymous with aggression and triggers a Pavlovian reaction in us. This is due in particular to a fairly widespread fear of rejection.
Indeed, there is a frequent cognitive distortion that leads us to question ourselves personally in the face of criticism and consequently to fear exclusion.
“We prefer a lying compliment to a sincere criticism” Plautus – Mostellaria (Latin comic author, 254 BC).
“Some experience criticism not as the estimation of a job, but as a rejection of their person” Catherine Aimelet – Périssol (psychotherapist)
And yet…
“Have a cult of critical thinking” Louis Pasteur, chemist – physicist, 1822-1895
“Whoever criticizes others is working on his own amendment” Arthur Schopenhauer – Aphorisms on the Wisdom of Life, philosopher, 1788-1860
In the agile culture (Agile methods) continuous improvement is emphasized.
In fact, it is essential to any creative process.
Agile has popularized continuous improvement, with retrospectives. At each end of the sprint, so generally every 2 or 3 weeks, the team stops developing to reflect on how it has worked, with the aim of improving.

The questioning of a work or a method can come from inside (introspection) or from the outside and it is on this point that criticism comes into play. It is sometimes easier for others to identify areas for improvement.
Criticism is therefore a favorable factor, even necessary for continuous improvement.
Yes, but still?
Criticism can be constructive and contributes to continuous improvement, of course, but that does not help us to take it well (or just a little). How to accept a frontal criticism with dignity?
